epic road trip: DC

I’m out of order.  Big time.  But due to lack of sleep, I’m going to ask that we all forgive me.  Thanks…

On day 4 of our epic road trip, we ventured out into the heart of DC.  We had two MUST DO items on our list.  Hannah had been talking about seeing “Barack Obama’s House” for months and Ted and I had heard about DC’s food trucks and really wanted to do that for lunch.  We made it happen.  And more.

Our sweet friends live close by the Metro, so we walked over and got on the train.  Let’s just say their day was already made…(They looked like this the entire time)

Once we got to the White House, the kids weren’t actually that interested.  Seeing as you can’t get very close unless you had a tour, I guess I can see why.  We left soon after and played a game of tag.  (and realized that visiting the monuments should probably not be on our “must do” for the day)

I love him.

And her.  And those hims in the background.  (And yes, this was our game of tag right across from the White House.)

This next picture melts me into a pile of mush.  After walking several blocks to get to the Food Trucks (and enduring a very whiny 6 year old during portions of that walk), we stopped and saw this…

Of course within minutes – this happened:

I ended up finishing the food the kids got.  And it was GREAT.  Worth the walk and whiny-ness for sure.  And the lifesaver?  We bought a picnic blanket right before we left Atlanta.  Even though I hated spending the money at the time – it has been a LIFESAVER with an 11 month old.  We set up in a patch of grass and had a great picnic in the middle of the bustle.

Hannah’s summer dream?  Ice cream from the ice cream truck.  (Sponge Bob ice cream to be exact.)  So that was our next adventure.  PS:  On the left, Ted is also WEARING Asher in the Ergo.  He’s my hero.

Bliss.

Our next stop was the Smithsonian Museum of American History.  We had heard you could find The Muppets and the kids were stoked.  Though we never found the rest of the crew, we did find Kermit

After a bit, we ventured over to the Air and Space Museum.  The kids had a blast.

J decided that day that he wanted to be a panda.  Frequently.  Thus the “J as a panda” picture.  And yes, that is our child LAYING DOWN on the FLOOR.  After not sleeping well for the first 3 days, the kids were pretty tired.

It then started to RAIN.  Big time.  So we headed off to the Metro and back to our friend’s house.  Things we learned: the metro charges more during rush hour and if you didn’t prepay correctly or add fare before you exit – your only option is to PAY CASH.  Things to know…

J and one of his new best friends…

One of these days, I may catch up.  We’re currently in Buffalo and grateful for yet another sweet friend who is letting us invade their space.  More is on the way from our time in NYC and Boston, but for the moment, I give you DC.
