a birth story

I wasn’t sure if she would say yes.

We’re good friends, but still…

But I asked anyway.  Just in case.

She thought about it and said yes.  She and her husband decided to give me the most incredible privilege of photographing the birth of their son.

Matt and Shannon, thank you so much.  The two of you are such a gift in my life.  Thank you for your words of life that you’ve spoken into me and our entire family over and over.  Thank you for your raw honesty that has taught me so much over the past year.  Thank you for the way you challenge yourselves.  For the way you love your kids.  And for being willing to let me be a part of something so incredibly sacred.  I love you both so much I cannot find words adequate to convey it properly.

Without further ado, here is their precious baby’s birth story…

This is sooo incredible! It brought tears to my eyes- it reminds me of that special moment both of my girls were brought into this world! If I ever decide to have another baby I would so love to do this. You are awesome and so are Shannon, Matt, and Declan for letting you document such an amazing moment in their lives!!!

I should have commented when I first read this beautiful post. These are wonderful!!! You did such a great job, Amy!!! Dad’s hand on baby’s toes – perfection. And I’d love to put that song in my “birth songs to use” playlist! = ) Much love!

[…] Shannon McDonald – I have no idea how I would have survived the past year of my life without your friendship.  You sharpen me.  You have literally been a part of restoration in my life – so no wonder God gave you that word.  You talked me down from the ledge – listened for far too long – and pushed me to be a better mom, wife and photographer all along the way.  You are a gift.
