and then…

There are certain days that have that “and then” quality.  Today finds itself there.

It started when I grabbed what I thought were my keys…and then I realized they weren’t.  And that I had locked us out of the house…while Ted had already logged 3 hours en route to Virginia…and I had a meal cooking in the crock pot.

And then we drove out to our sweet friend’s work because she had a spare key.  We had an excuse to surprise her with a Starbucks yummy and managed to cause a minor scene in Starbucks with all three kids, two hot chocolates, one iced coffee, one vanilla latte, one VENTI ice water and an egg sandwich.  And a baby holding my credit card.

And then…2 hours after school – we were home.

And then…I played a movie for the oldest 2 while I attempted to catch a nap with Asher.

And then…my Hannah screams, “My tooth came out!”

And then I made approximately 847 trips through my hallway to the kitchen to grab random refills and necessary items in order to feed those sweet children dinner.

And then…the baby got angry at life.

And then …I realized that I had asked my daughter to store her lost tooth on a plate on the table – WHICH I THREW INTO THE SINK.  I then spent 7 minutes searching for said tooth.

And then…I realized I needed to pack my daughter’s lunch and feed my little ones and their friends tomorrow and I had NOTHING for lunch food.

And then we went to Trader Joes…at what is normally their bed time.  Which is also when I realized we still hadn’t done my daughter’s homework – which was bird-watching.  So, we watched those birds as we drove to the store.

And then…J nearly ran over someone with a grocery cart.

And then…we bought everything and got to go HOME!

And then…I realized I had once again lost her tooth.

And then…I had to get three overly tired children to bed.

And then…I ate a bowl of ice cream.

And then…I submitted a wedding to be published…

And then…I found poop on my bath mat.

May God give us all the grace to take in all the “and then’s” in our lives and to laugh.  And yes – this is what I walked into one morning this June.  And yes – our little man used to sleep in his car seat in his crib.  Don’t judge.  A mom has to do what a mom has to do to get some sleep…
