emily and john

They had been friends for a while.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Life hit and they walked each other through it.

That’s when it hit them; they were meant to walk through this life together.  For all their days.

Emily and John, y’all rock.  So.very.much.  And I’m SO honored that I had the privilege of capturing this time in your lives.  Emily – watching you walk through the past 10 years has been such an honor.  I still remember our Starbucks and Culver’s dates like they were yesterday.  And to then get to capture your engagement?  Well…I seriously started getting all teary.  You are such a gift in my life and I’m so grateful for you and John.  I could not be more excited for you two!

For me, my clients and who they are is the center of my session.  It’s the beginning and the point, and everything.  As we talked through who they are and who they are as a couple, we needed to get that city and country mix.  Since Emily grew up in Glen Ellyn, we started there.

Then it was time to get that authentic, backroads feel.  Enter Wagner Farms.  Not only do they have AMAZING fruits and veggies and the best staff in the universe (if you’re anywhere Naperville their farmstand is worth the drive.  Pinky promise), they also happen to be one of my FAVORITE spots in the Chicago area.  And the owner was gracious enough to let me shoot there…  I swoon…

LOVE.

When Emily and John and I talked through their story and their engagement pictures, a few things stood out – their authenticity, their approachability and the fact that John has an AWESOME truck.  As I heard more about their direction for their wedding, I couldn’t help myself.  “I’m sorry if it’s an inconvenience, but the truck simply HAS to make it into the shoot.  HAS to.”  They said of course.  (because they are awesome)  As I dreamed a little more, I couldn’t help but feel like mason jars and pink lemonade and the truck with them was SO THEM.  So Emily graciously pulled all the elements together (thank you again!) and this happened….

EMILY!  You are GORGEOUS.  Holy buckets…

To know her is to know how much this is her…  And LOVE it.

Yes…sometimes I make what I call “camera face”.  You know…that moment where you tense up and appear to be slightly or mostly psychotic because you’re concentrating so hard on not blinking and smiling just the right amount.  Well..it happened.  And I still love this pictures because I’ve now known this beautiful lady for 10 years and it means the world to me – scary face and all…
